The Saarinen Tulip series
With his designs for the Tulip furniture series, Eero Saarinen has succeeded in creating a groundbreaking furniture series. For the first time, a chair was produced with only one leg - and a whole series of countless tables to go with it. Manufacturer's website Eero Saarinen's Tulip series, 1957 Eero Saarinen's designs represent the visionary and progressive mentality of the mid-20th century - especially that in the US. Saarinen's architectural designs for the TWA terminal at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport helped give civil aviation a futuristic identity in the era of the first jets. The world went global again. Air travel was considered an exclusive expression of cosmopolitan elegance. Eero Saarinen's work as a furniture designer would also have a major influence on America in the 1950s and 1960s. The Tulip collection for Knoll emerged from his early attempts to experiment with materials and shapes. The organic design also reflects the space age. A search for almost natural forms should lead to a deviation from the traditional four-legged table. “I wanted to get rid of the tangle of legs,” says Saarinen.

Arabescato marble from Italy
The marble from the Italian regions is among the most beautiful types of marble. Despite the delicate, filigree pattern, Emparador marble is very robust and suitable for everyday use. None other than Michelangelo bought the marble here for his beautiful statues. Geographically, the quarries of Emparador marble are located in the Apuan Alps. Historic quarries are open to visitors here, while this fascinating natural stone is extracted and processed in enormous blocks in many quarries. The radiant white of the Arabescato marble and the finely veined gray lines that run through the stone in a completely natural way are unique. To better protect the marble against acid from food and drinks, Knoll provides the marble slabs with a polyester coating.
