The Atoll modular corner sofa is a design by Antonio Citterio for the Italian design house B&B Italia. The model is part of a series of modular seating furniture in which flexibility, comfort, and architectural clarity come together. Atoll has been developed as a generous, contemporary seating system that adapts to various living environments and usage scenarios.
Design vision of Antonio Citterio
Antonio Citterio is known for his sober, rational approach to design, in which comfort and functionality are always central. In the Atoll sofa, this translates into a horizontal structure, clear volumes, and a balanced proportion between the seat, backrest, and base. The design is deliberately kept calm and avoids fashionable accents, ensuring its long-term relevance.
Modular layout
The Atoll sofa is designed as a modular system. The individual elements can be combined into various configurations, including generous corner arrangements. This allows the sofa to be tailored to both the available space and the desired use, without losing the coherence of the design.
Construction and materials
The construction consists of a solid load-bearing frame, combined with high-quality cushions that provide support and comfort. The sofa is upholstered in textile in a neutral grey tone, which contributes to the understated appearance of the design. Subtle metal details in the base reinforce the technical and refined character characteristic of B&B Italia.
Comfort and seating experience
With a seat height of approximately 42 cm and deep seats, the Atoll sofa is designed for relaxed sitting and lounging. The backrests provide support without looking massive, allowing the sofa to maintain an open and accessible appearance, despite its generous dimensions.
