Warren Platner – US (1919–2006)
Warren Platner attended Cornell University, graduating in architecture in 1941.
He subsequently worked with leading architects such as Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen and I.M. Pei, before establishing his own architectural firm.
During his career, Platner made several significant architectural contributions, including the Georg Jensen Design Center and the Windows on the World restaurant at the World Trade Center, both located in New York City.
However, he owes his worldwide fame to his furniture collection for Knoll.
The Platner Collection , originally introduced in 1966, is considered an icon of modern furniture. Platner personally developed the production techniques for these complex designs, each requiring over a thousand welds and over a hundred cylindrical steel rods.
Knoll also introduced a collection for executive offices designed by Platner.
